Cape Hawke Surf Lifesaving Club gets new facilities

9 January 2018

Federal Member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie today congratulated Cape Hawke Surf Lifesaving Club on its successful funding application for assistance in improving the club’s facilities

Dr Gillespie said the Club had been successful in securing $3,000 in Federal funding under the Coalition Government’s Stronger Communities programme towards the cost a new built-in BBQ and the installation of new security gates in the courtyard of the Cape Hawke Surf Lifesaving Club.

The in-built BBQ will be used primarily for the weekly ‘Nippers’ junior program to service lunch after events. The courtyard area it will be in is a sun-safe area with a shade sail. Security gates will protect the BBQ and enclose the area safely. The BBQ will also be available for the U3A group who use the club facility daily but have no access to a BBQ. It will also be available for other community groups that use the training room of the surf club adjacent to the courtyard regularly, as well as surf club members in general

“These facilities will provide a safe and shaded area to be used by the Nippers junior program, surf club members and community organisations,” Dr Gillespie said.

“The Club, through its volunteer members, does a magnificent job looking after us all at the beach during the beach patrol season and I am delighted they have been successful in securing these funds so they can improve the facilities for the benefit of their members and the broader community,” Dr Gillespie said.

The total coast of the new facilities is $6,160.

The Stronger Communities Programme supports the Federal Coalition Government’s commitment to deliver social benefits across Australia by funding small capital projects in each of the 150 federal electorates.

The programme’s intended outcomes are to improve local community participation and contribute to vibrant and viable communities. Round 3 of the programme will provide $22.5 million in 2017-18, $150,000 to each electorate.
