The new Wauchope Pool Grandstand delivers the goods at School Swimming Carnival

2 February 2018

The multi-million dollar upgrade of the Wauchope Pool is continuing to deliver benefits to the community.

Today, Wauchope Public School held its annual swimming carnival in slightly inclement weather conditions with the new grandstand proving a great new addition to the upgraded regional swimming facility.

Federal Member for Lyne Dr David Gillespie and Mayor Peta Pinson dropped in to the Wauchope Pool today to see the new grandstand in full use.

“It’s an important component in the overall $3-million upgrade, and I’m delighted the Federal Coalition Government has been able to deliver $1.5-million towards the project,” Dr Gillespie said.

“It’s an upgrade that not only delivers for the local community, but also the region with the additional facilities that are now available.  Other swimming facilities on the North Coast don’t have the same standard or suite of facilities, such as the recently refurbished diving board, so it’s another feather in Wauchope’s cap.”

Mayor Peta Pinson said most of the project was complete with the whole project expected to finish in June.

“Council has engaged Swimplex Aquatics to design and construct the children’s play facility. Detailed designs are now being finalised and we expect that part of the upgrade to Wauchope Pool to come on line in the middle of the year,” Cr Pinson said.
